[05:40] <u77> hello all
[05:42] <u77> anyone here?
[05:42] <stellar-slack> yes thousands
[06:09] <u77> have you seen the stellartalk page on facebook? it has lots of scam links
[06:25] <stellar-slack> no I didn't u77, so maybe we need clients on Stellar that are more like bitcoin that don't require dns lookups to find secure transaction points
[06:26] <stellar-slack> I personaly have run into the same scam on http://paypal.com|paypal.com that I gave away my user and password to
[06:28] <stellar-slack> now any site link that I have to click on that involve money or security I always verify the https certificates
[06:30] <stellar-slack> I re-type it or use my own bookmark for anything money related
[06:32] <stellar-slack> good idea
[06:33] <stellar-slack> granted, I think most browsers defend against https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDN_homograph_attack now, but figure the risk isn't worth the convenience of clicking someone else's link
[06:43] <stellar-slack> but even typing the correct letters does not protect you from a man in the middle attack that can take over the clients DNS and point you to a cloned website of the attackers desire
[06:45] <stellar-slack> but man in the middle can't fix the https problem that is normaly just diverted to an http site instead that normal people don't realize is not there site
[06:47] <stellar-slack> any standard public network on wifi or ethernet network is now trival with mac spoof that can reroute with just a few clicks on the attacker side.
[08:59] <u77> true
[08:59] <u77> i reported the page
[08:59] <u77> hope fb removes it
[09:26] <stellar-slack> cool... it has blocked the account
[09:26] <stellar-slack> damn
[09:27] <stellar-slack> that's not stellartalk you need to report
[09:27] <stellar-slack> that's the link...
[09:33] <stellar-slack> https://www.facebook.com/StellarTalk
[09:33] <stellar-slack> I don't see any spam
[09:34] <stellar-slack> do you?
[09:34] <stellar-slack> I have hidden them long time ago
[09:34] <stellar-slack> could you provide me a link where do you see spam?
[10:08] <u77> the link i reported is the same you sent here
[10:09] <u77> sorry... i reported this one: https://www.facebook.com/pages/StellarTalk/395813023933264
[12:41] <stellar-slack> wow that looks convincing but I failed to find any of the 3 million give away links that worked
[12:41] <stellar-slack> but I guess a few days they put up new links that work
[15:33] <stellar-slack> Facebook is pretty terrible about phishing reporting
[15:33] <stellar-slack> I've had our real Facebook page shut down multiple times because they can't tell the difference between people reporting phishing links posted by others, and the legitimacy of our page
[15:33] <stellar-slack> my advice is to just report the links instead
[15:34] <stellar-slack> I've issued a takedown request to the one linked by @u77's
[15:34] <stellar-slack> but honestly they do pop up faster than I can try to take them down
[15:34] <stellar-slack> a better strategy is to try to educate people about security online
[15:34] <stellar-slack> like Mat said, never clicking someone else's link - things like that
[15:34] <stellar-slack> if anyone has ideas on how to educate folks on this, I'm all ears!
[16:32] <stellar-slack> welcome @ben! what brings you by? :)
[16:34] <stellar-slack> I think I've seen you around Twitter
[17:11] <stellar-slack> love this: https://twitter.com/WorldBank/status/629699787370180608
[21:39] <stellar-slack> This is an awesome piece on rethinking the world's financial systems: https://99bitcoins.com/bitcoin-lesson-how-networked-financial-structure-could-change-world/
[21:39] <stellar-slack> to @joyce! :ewok:
